A Season to Rest, Reset, and Reconnect..

As the year came to a close, I made a very intentional decision: to slow down.

Like many people in demanding careers, I spend most of the year juggling work, deadlines, responsibilities, and the constant mental load that comes with striving to do well professionally while also showing up fully for family. This holiday season, I chose something different. I chose rest.

There was no big itinerary or packed schedule. Instead, my days were centered around being at home, cooking real meals, spending time with my children, and opening my home to friends and loved ones. It was simple, grounding, and exactly what my mind and body needed.

I cooked more than usual , not elaborate meals, but comforting ones. Homemade food shared around the table has a way of slowing conversations down and bringing people closer. Between pots on the stove, laughter in the living room, and quiet moments of reflection, I felt a kind of peace that is easy to forget in the rush of everyday life.

This season reminded me that rest is not laziness, and pausing is not falling behind. Rest is maintenance. It is how we reset emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually. It allows us to return to our work clearer, calmer, and more aligned with who we are and what truly matters.

As career-driven people, it can feel uncomfortable to fully switch off. There is always another email, another plan, another goal waiting. But seasons like this where we consciously put work aside and prioritise mental health, connection, and wellbeing are essential. They are what sustain us for the long run.

I’m entering the new year feeling nourished, grounded, and grateful. Grateful for food on the table, for shared laughter, for quiet moments, and for the reminder that life is not only about what we achieve, but also about how well we rest.

Here’s to creating space for balance, presence, and care not just during the holidays, but throughout the year.
